Whitening Strips Review

When using whitening strips, you are always recommended to read the label, and check that you are adhering to the instructions to the letter. If you don’t, the process may work in reverse, and it could harm your teeth and gums. This could set your DIY treatment back as much as a few months, and your dentist will not be very happy with you.

Firstly, you should rinse your teeth, and brush them with just water, making sure you remove as much plaque as possible. Keep rinsing your mouth with water, and try to get as much of the food and debris particles from out the pores in the tooth enamel as possible.

The instructions included with the strips will advise that you bleach twice a day, for up to half an hour at a time. The strips will fit on your front teeth, and begin using a chemical called hydrogen peroxide. When this chemical (which is used in smaller doses by dentists) touches the stains on your teeth, it turns them white by oxidizing them.

Do not over treat your teeth – ensure you keep to the maximum amount of time before taking them off. Make sure you do not fall asleep while wearing the whitening strips. Hydrogen peroxide can burn your gums, so it is important to follow the instructions.

While treating you teeth, you will of course experience some sensitivity, because the pores of the tooth enamel are open and exposed to cold/hot sensations even more than normal. Remember that teeth whitening strips only cover the front teeth and not the back ones. You will see a definitive difference in color.

If you have deep brown stains, the shades may not lighten as much as they would if the stains are just yellow on your teeth. For deeper stains, a more intensive treatment over extended periods is recommended.
